Cardiology and Pneumology

The Clinic for Cardiology and Pneumology is headed by Professor Dr. Gerd Hasenfuß. It is comprised of one internal medicine intensive care unit and five wards specialized in the care of patients with cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases. At the internal medicine intensive care unit (1026) and the chest pain unit (1025), patients with acute life-threatening disease are monitored after complicated catheter-based coronary and cardiac valve procedures. At the interdisciplinary pulmonary ward (4021), patients with pulmonary diseases are treated surgically and internistically with the most modern methods available. A staff of 16 senior physicians, 7 specialists and 37 residents make up the core diagnostics and treatment teams. All units and functional areas adhere to state-of-the-art, evidence-based diagnostic and treatment guidelines as well as the newest research findings in cardiology and pneumonology.

The modern cardiac and pulmonary function laboratories facilitate the analysis and treatment of a variety of cardiac and pulmonary function disorders.

Comprehensive patient care
Our clinic places special emphasis on comprehensive patient care, and we work in close collaboration with other facilities of the Heart Center Göttingen. This is particularly the case in the areas of coronary heart disease, heart failure, cardiac valve disorders and arrhythmias. For example, through the joint care of patients, we collaborate regularly during consultations for the respective patient groups as well as through interdisciplinary Heart Center conferences. It is our goal to treat each patient individually, to find the treatment best suited to his or her need.
