Clinical electrophysiology

The clinically oriented working group treats all kinds of arrhythmias using radiofrequency catheter ablation, pharmacological antiarrhythmic therapy, and electrical cardioversion, and also performs all pacemaker and defibrillator implantations.

The working group also leads the multinational clinical trial within the EU funded FP7 project EUTrigTreat. In addition, several currently ongoing clinical trials are conducted in the field of ablation and CRT-D (defibrillator) therapy (O-CONNECT, MONITOR-ICD, CABANA, STX). These trials have been investigator-initiated by the group and include home monitoring in patients with an implantable defibrillator, thoracic impedance measurement and ablation in patients with atrial fibrillation.

Another main focus is risk stratification of malignant arrhythmias using non-invasive methods. There is also a well established cooperation with Max-Planck-Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization in Göttingen.
